Greek Language & History

Grades 1, 2, 3:During the first three grades students are placed in the advanced (Greek speakers) or the beginners' (English speakers) group depending on the level of competence in the Greek language. The advanced group follows the curriculum prescribed by the Ministry of Education. In the beginners' group an effort is made for the students to attain a satisfactory level of understanding of the Greek language and grammar.

Grades 4 & 5: All students are prepared for the Modern Greek IGCSE (composition and translation), which they are expected to take at the end of grade four.
In grade five, they will begin preparation for the GCE AS level in order to take the appropriate exam at the end of the year. Students are separated into beginners and advanced groups.  The beginners cover letter writing, translation and comprehension of passages in the Greek language. The advanced group also covers the History of Cyprus which is needed for the 7th year when they take the Advanced Level exam.  The fifth year beginner group completes the course after the AS whereas the fifth year Advance group continues on to the Advanced Level which is the second half of the exam (History of Cyprus).

Grades 6 & 7: In the 6th year students begin preparation for the second part of the Advanced Modern Greek Advanced level course which is completed by the end of the seventh grade and the students take the appropriate examination. This comprises translations, questions on specified literary works in prose as well as poetry and questions on the History of Cyprus.

Religion

Grades 1, 2, 3: During the first three grades religion is taught following the curriculum prescribed by the Ministry of Education. At selected times during the year the students are taken to church to attend mass.
