Duke of Edinburgh
We are proud to once again offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at GS this year. The Award programme is the world’s leading youth achievement award, with over 1.1 million young people, from 141 countries, involved around the world!
The Award is an incredible experience and qualification that transforms young people’s lives by creating opportunities to develop skills, get physically active, give service and experience adventure. Their achievements will be recognised worldwide, providing them with unique international accreditation of their experience. The Award programme is especially highly regarded by Universities and employers worldwide.
Most young people already participate in extra-curricular activities such as: going to a gym, attending dance lessons, playing on a football team, learning the guitar, learning a new language, and volunteering in school charity clubs. The programme will allow them to gain credit for the activities they are already doing, and encourage them to expand and experience new ones. This, and a lot of fun, as participants in the Award will also train and participate in an adventurous overnight hiking and camping expedition!
Therefore, if your child is 14 years old and above, and is interested in the Award, please ask them to attend an information meeting Friday 07 October at 2pm in room 3 (if you are available please also join us at this time). Registration forms will be available at the meeting and in the school office. All forms and payment should be returned to Mrs. Andrea in the front office, clearly labelled in an envelope with the child’s name and Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award on the front.
