YEAR 6 ENGLISH – SCHEME OF WORK – 2020-2021

Each term the students will be assessed on class work, participation, homework and a test. At the end of the academic year they will also have their English final exam which will be based on the material and techniques the students will have covered throughout the year. 

Time for revision and questions for homework and tests are allocated throughout the school year.

3-6  Development/Understanding of Society through media (Die Welle 2008) 
  • Learning to make references & links between texts, media, etc.

  • Understanding the author’s intentions 
  • Building social awareness and the influence and power of the media in society 
7-8  Crimes in Society 
  • Through debates the students will build their skills in researching and building an argument, confidence in public speaking, the power of words, critical thinking skills, etc. 
9-11  Revision of Essay writing (discursive, argumentative, persuasive, opinion) 
  • This unit aims at reinforcing, developing and elevating the students’ essay writing skills 
12-17  Creative Writing through Script, Poetry, Lyrics, Stories, Monologues and Dialogue 
  • Students will build on their knowledge of the effects of techniques and language in a variety of texts 
  • The importance of performance and presentation 
  • The unit aims at encouraging creativity in the individual student and applying writer’s techniques for different writing styles
