Director’s Note
It is for yet another year that I welcome you to the Grammar School’s
Annual Show which this year is a production of “Joseph and
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. During the course of
this production, I have felt grateful and fortunate to have had
such talented and devoted cast, dancers, choir, and especially
an inspiring team of colleagues. They have provided me with the
wonderful experience of sharing, learning and growing. I think
you will agree and have an equally fulfilling experience.
Moreover, this show would not be possible, if it weren’t
for the parents of these fantastic children and I thank them in
turn.
Finally, we must say goodbye to Raymonde Beraud, Christos Iacovou
and Savvas Stavrou who have been the backbone of the Music and
Drama Club for many years now and I thank them from the bottom
of my heart. I wish them all the success and happiness in what
they endeavour.
This show is dedicated to our friend Maria Kouzi Aletrari whose
enthusiasm, insight, talent and warmth is greatly missed by all
of us.
Synopsis
Based on the biblical tale, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat is retold using a variety of musical styles and exciting
dance sequences. Joseph is Jacob’s favourite son. God’s
gifts of beauty and the ability to interpret dreams coupled with
Jacob’s gift of an exquisite multi-coloured coat cause Joseph’s
eleven brothers to become insanely jealous. They fake his death
and sell him into slavery.
Joseph is taken to Egypt where his intelligence and faith allow
him to rise quickly in the household of the wealthy Potiphar.
Joseph attracts Potiphar’s wife and his piety draws her
scorn. Falsely accused, Joseph is thrown into jail where he quickly
becomes popular due to his ability to interpret dreams.
Joseph’s gift is remembered and used to solve the riddle
of the Pharaoh’s perplexing dreams. His new benefactor appoints
him the Number Two man in Egypt, where Joseph’s management
skills enable Egypt to prepare for and thrive during a terrible
famine. Years later, Joseph's starving brothers arrive in Egypt
and ask Joseph, whom they don't recognize, for assistance. Joseph,
in turn, tests them to see if they have changed, forgives them,
reveals his identity, and reunites the family.
This irresistible musical tells a story of hardship, faith, endurance,
betrayal, and forgiveness. This message should inspire us all
to follow our dreams.
