INTRODUCTION

This is intended to give you only a brief introduction to the Grammar School Junior. It is recommended that parents not only come see the premises but also to arrange a meeting with us to discuss all matters pertaining to private education and our school in particular. This ensures that the right decision concerning your child's education is made.

Since it was founded in Limassol in 1975, The Grammar School Junior provides its students with an all-round education and lays down the foundations to help children develop mentally, emotionally as well as physically. The overall aim of the school is to provide a general education so that our students can be eligible to enter any Secondary school, not only in Cyprus, but abroad as well. The teachers maintain a close and friendly relationship with the pupils and each child is treated with respect. Able and experienced teachers, small classes and well-equipped classrooms provide the appropriate learning conditions.

ADMISSIONS

In order to enter our Reception class, the child's name must be entered on to our waiting list as early as possible. An interview with the parents is strongly recommended. However, it must be made very clear that simply putting your child's name on the waiting list does not ensure enrolment. Priority is given to families that already have other siblings attending either The Grammar School or Junior. Further priority is given to parents who are alumni of the school.

When entering the school from Class 2-6, a Placement Test is required in Mathematics, English and Greek to ensure that the student is up to standard with other children their age.

TUITION FEES

Detailed information regarding the fees can be obtained from our office or from this website.

Although Greek is taught in the school as a second language, we follow the curriculum prescribed by the Ministry of Education using the same books used by the public Greek schools. The students are expected to learn reading, writing, comprehension, grammar and History as all part of the curriculum. Greek in introduced from Reception Class and is compulsory for all students whose parents are of Greek origin.

For students whose parents are not Greek, or for students not raised in Cyprus, Greek is also offered at a lower level. The teachers will recommend which students are eligible to attend these classes.

School Trips:

The school offers 2 class trips (in fall and in spring) to all students of the school which combine educational and fun activities. However, teachers are strongly encouraged to take their students on educational excursions in or around Limassol more regularly.

ACADEMIC PROGRESS

The school organizes two Parent-Teachers meetings, once during the autumn term and once during the spring usually approximately half way through the term. These meetings give the parents the opportunity to see how their child is progressing.

School reports are given three times per academic year at the end of each term.

Parents are always welcome to the school on any given day to discuss academic matters with teachers provided an appointment has been made which is convenient for the teacher.

Support:

Every student has the opportunity to get support help if required. The teacher may advise any student to stay after school for extra help or attend an organized Support Hour that takes place on Fridays after school.

Assemblies:

The school attempts to organize assemblies once a month for the duration of the school year. There are various themes to these assemblies, ranging from informative/celebratory on national and/or religious holidays or other educational topics. The assemblies take place in the school hall.

Theatrical performances take place at Christmas, in the Spring and other specified times of the year. Also Greek plays are performed and usually the school choir participates in all theatrical performances.

Art Exhibition:

In the last few years in recognition of the immense talent that we possess in art, a art exhibition is held to honor the founders of the school. The school will sometimes choose the best works of art to be published as Christmas cards or calendars.

The school also recognizes that sports is an intricate part of education and students are given the opportunity to show off their skills in mini-football and bowling tournaments as well as an annual Sports Day.
